Free Plugin · v1.2

Box of Bass

One bass signal becomes a full layered rig: a true sub, two clean cabs, three driven mics and two room mics, all under one roof. The drive stage is opened up: saturate, drive, release, sustain, with a master EQ, per-strip pads and room feed selection. The beta was Bass Better-er; this is what it grew into. Free.

Downloads always point at the newest build, so there is never a stale link to chase. Free for any use, commercial productions included. If it earns a place on your tracks, throw a coffee in the tip jar.

The plugin counts anonymous usage (never audio, personal data or your preset names), with a clearly labelled opt-out in its SYS panel. Details in the privacy policy. What It Does

The Rig
01 · Layer

Nine Strips, One Rig

True sub, two clean cabs (15" and 12"), three driven mics (57, 421, tweeter) and two rooms, near and far, each room fed by the strips you choose. Every layer voiced from real Box Of Rules captures.

02 · Drive

The Drive Stage, Opened Up

Captured drive characters per mic strip, now with the stage exposed: saturate, drive, release and sustain on the master, so the dirt breathes with your playing instead of sitting on top of it.

03 · Shape

EQ, Pads and Modes

A six-band master EQ with movable bands, per-strip −12 dB headroom pads, a SIMPLE view when you just want faders, and a GUITAR MODE that pitches the whole chain down an octave. Presets, A/B and a live spectrum included.

The rig without the laptop. Box of Bass is a native block for the Darkglass Anagram: the same captured cabs, mics and rooms, rebuilt to run on the pedal and dial from its own screen, so the tone you tracked with is the tone you walk on stage with.

It is on the Anagram marketplace under Box Of Rules. The desktop plugin here stays free; the Anagram build is a paid block.

What Players Say

From the Beta Thread
TalkBass · Beta Thread

"Nice package, nice UI and usability. Very intuitive… does what it says on the tin. Great user experience. I was seeking ways to split a single input into multiple channels to do exactly what this does — this solves the problem I had. I like this, I will use it as is. Well done!"

TalkBass · Beta Thread

"It sounds great… useful for home playalong when I'm practicing; if I was performing I might use it in Ableton or MainStage. New version works great."

TalkBass · Beta Thread

"Works fine in my DAW [FL Studio]. Looks really good — I'm more than happy to open my door to use it."

From the TalkBass beta thread, June–July 2026 — the beta these players tested grew into Box of Bass.

From the Beta

Bass Better-er

Box of Bass is the successor to Bass Better-er, the free beta that ran through 2026. The beta's final release keeps working forever, and the two install side by side; existing sessions keep resolving to Bass Better-er, so nothing you saved ever breaks. New sessions start here.

Install

Quick Start

1. Download the build for your platform above: macOS .dmg, Windows .exe, or Linux VST3 zip. 2. Run the installer, or drop the VST3 / AU into your plugins folder. 3. Rescan plugins in your DAW and load Box of Bass on a bass track.

The macOS build is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, so it installs and opens with no Gatekeeper prompt, and includes the PACE-signed AAX for Pro Tools. Windows is unsigned, so SmartScreen may warn: More info, then Run anyway.

FAQ

Quick Answers
How much does Box of Bass cost?

It is free, for any use, commercial productions included. No account, no dongle. If it earns a place on your tracks there is a Ko-fi tip jar.

What happened to Bass Better-er?

Bass Better-er was the beta, and Box of Bass is what it grew into. Bass Better-er's final release (v0.2.2) keeps working forever, and the two install side by side; existing sessions keep resolving to Bass Better-er.

What formats and platforms does it support?

VST3, AU and a standalone app on macOS, Windows and Linux, plus PACE-signed AAX for Pro Tools, which ships inside the macOS installer.

What does it add over Bass Better-er?

Nine strips: true sub, two clean cabs (15 inch and 12 inch), three driven mics (57, 421, tweeter) and two room mics, plus the drive stage opened up (saturate, drive, release, sustain), a four-band master EQ, per-strip headroom pads, room feed selection, a SIMPLE view and a GUITAR MODE.

Does it phone home?

It counts anonymous usage: a random install id with the plugin version, OS and DAW; never audio, personal data or the names of presets you create, batched roughly hourly, with a clearly labelled opt-out checkbox in the SYS panel that stops everything immediately. Full details are in the Box Of Rules privacy policy.
