Picking Fingers

Sometimes a bassist needs a different feel without fumbling for a pick, or when the fingers are feeling stiff. Picking Fingers voices a signal to sound like it was played the preferred way.

Downloads always point at the newest build, so there is never a stale link to chase. Free for any use, commercial productions included. If it earns a place on your tracks, throw a coffee in the tip jar.

The plugin counts anonymous usage (never audio or personal data), with a clearly labelled opt-out in its SYS panel. Details in the privacy policy. What It Does

The Transform
01 · Voice

Measured, Not Guessed

Measured with multiple bassists, amps, inputs and players the differences became precision minimum-phase voicing filters, level-matched through the low end so switching voice changes the character of the note, never the weight of the low end.

02 · Attack

The Feel Comes With the Tone

Pick treble rings on through the note, while fingers put their brightness into the attack thump. ATTACK applies that measured per-note character; BITE adds a gritty chunk on the front of each note only, so sustains stay clean. VOICE to choose preference.

03 · Track

Zero Latency

With standard IN / OUT trims and a ±6 dB TONE tilt that is a true bypass at flat. Zero latency: safe for tracking. Mono or stereo. Free, for any use.

Install

Quick Start

1. Download your platform's build above: the macOS .dmg runs an installer that puts the AAX, AU, VST3 and LV2 in the system plug-in folders; on Windows and Linux unzip and drop the bundle into your VST3 / LV2 folder. 2. Rescan plugins in your DAW and load Picking Fingers on a bass track.

The macOS build is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple (PACE-signed AAX for Pro Tools included), so it installs and opens with no Gatekeeper prompt. Windows is unsigned, so SmartScreen may warn: More info, then Run anyway.

FAQ

Quick Answers
What does Picking Fingers do?

It voices a bass signal played one way to sound like it was played the other: fingerstyle in, pick out, or pick in, fingers out. The transform is measured from real matched pick/fingers captures of the same basses playing the same parts, not a guessed EQ curve.

How much does it cost?

It is free, for any use, commercial productions included. No account, no dongle. If it earns a place on your tracks there is a Ko-fi tip jar.

What formats and platforms does it support?

VST3, AU (Logic) and LV2 on macOS (with PACE-signed AAX for Pro Tools in the macOS installer), plus VST3 and LV2 builds for Windows and Linux. It runs mono or stereo and is zero-latency, so it is safe for tracking.

Does it phone home?

It counts anonymous usage: a random install id with the plugin version, OS and DAW; never audio or personal data, batched roughly hourly, with a clearly labelled opt-out checkbox in the SYS panel that stops everything immediately. Full details are in the Box of Rules privacy policy.
