Box Of Rules is a bass-led project from Brighton, built around the bass guitar carrying the melodic soundscape, through experimentation, innovation and risk taking. Royal Blood meets Architects meets Prog, on steroids. Wide-ranging vocal techniques, time signatures and irregular structures, with lyrics that tap into the human experience and social justice. Everything you hear is drums, vocals and bass. That's it. Lead single Tax Wealth, Not Work is out now with a lyric visualiser, the debut EP Drums. Vocals. Bass follows in September, and Elias Kopp's Real Fake Paradise, featuring Box Of Rules, was played on BBC Introducing in July 2026. I'm James, and thanks to over a decade of software development I build plugins and tools from the music I make and share them with the community. Every plugin comes from my own studio captures: real cabs, real mics, real rooms, measured rather than modelled. Box of Bass and Picking Fingers are both free, and both run on the Darkglass Anagram pedal through the Anagram marketplace. You'll hear Box Of Rules plugins on Box Of Rules songs. Doesn't get more transparent and innovative than that for an experimental musician!
