Terms of Service

Last updated 31 Aug 2026

The short version: this site and the free plugins are here for you to enjoy. Don't abuse them, don't pretend they're yours, and understand that music software is provided as-is. Box Of Rules is one person (James H. Gordy), and these terms speak as him.

The site

boxofrules.com is my home for the band and the software. The content here (music, artwork, words, code) is mine unless credited otherwise, and you're welcome to link to it, quote it with credit, and share it around. Please don't scrape the site wholesale, hammer its endpoints, or republish its content as your own.

Plugins and software

The plugins are licensed to you, not sold, whether free or paid. You can install them on machines you use and make music with them without restriction: anything you record with them is entirely yours. You may not resell, rebadge or redistribute the plugins themselves, and please don't reverse-engineer them beyond what the law allows.

Audio software is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. I test everything I release, but I can't promise it works in every DAW on every machine, and I'm not liable for lost sessions, lost work or any damage arising from use of the software. If something breaks, tell me through the contact form and I'll do my best to fix it.

Supporter perks (Patreon and Ko-fi)

Some builds are supporter perks: available to people who back Box Of Rules on Patreon or Ko-fi. Those builds are time-limited by design; each one stops working a few months after it was made, and staying a supporter gets you fresh builds on an ongoing basis. That expiry is part of the deal, not a defect. If you stop supporting, builds you already have keep working until their own expiry date, and everything you made with them remains yours forever.

If you link your Patreon account on this site to unlock those perks, the linking is covered in the privacy policy. Payments to Patreon and Ko-fi happen on their platforms under their own terms; I don't see or store your payment details.

Purchases and donations

Paid products are described on their own pages, including what you get and what it costs. Donations are gifts, are appreciated more than you know, and don't create any obligation on either side. If a purchase goes wrong (failed download, broken licence), contact me and I'll sort it out.

Accounts

Where the site offers accounts, keep your login to yourself and be honest about who you are. I can suspend accounts that abuse the service, attempt to game supporter checks, or interfere with other people's use of it.

The boring but necessary bits

I may update these terms as the site and software grow; the date at the top always tells you when. Significant changes get a mention on the blog or newsletter. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If any part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
